Strong side regardless

24 September 2014

  • Manchester City v Sheffield Wednesday tonight
  • Capital One Cup third round at The Etihad
  • 5,400 Wednesdayites head over the Pennines

Lee Bullen says the Owls will face a stern test tonight, irrespective of the team fielded by the holders of the Capital One Cup.

Wednesday travel to Manchester City in the third round of the Capital One Cup and the home side will field a team sprinkled with top internationals, even if, as expected, manager Manuel Pellegrini shuffles his pack.

And Bullen insists there is no such thing as a weakened side where City are concerned.

He said:  "I think it would be unfair to suggest they may have a weakened side because they are still going to be full of international players.

“They could put out at least two strong elevens and their second eleven probably finish high up in the Premier League.

“Even if they change it, I would imagine all the big guns will be on the bench if they need them.

“If the manager does change things, I don't think it would devalue the competition anyway. They are international players.

“They play a lot of games in the Premier League and Champions League.”
