Under-18s edge to victory

20 September 2014

The Owls’ Under-18s chalked up their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over Ipswich.

Fred Tracey scored the only goal of the game in the first half at Middlewood Road.

Ipswich had earlier struck the crossbar before Wednesday’s Spencer Brown had a shot cleared off the line.

Tracey then capitalised on a defensive error to notch what proved to be the winning goal.

The Owls went on to resolutely defend their advantage and emerged worthy winners.

Coach Steve Haslam said:  “It was another solid performance from the lads and it was good to see them rewarded for their efforts.

“We’ve been much tighter defensively in the last few games, with Brad Beatson and Connor O’Grady developing a good centre back partnership.

“At the other end, Freddy took his goal well to score his third in five league games.”

Owls: McDonagh, Foster, Stachini, Law (Nicholson 81), O'Grady, Beatson, Conneh (Duffy 57), Brown, Tracey, Ellam (Clarke 70), Penney
