Haslam proud of derby heroes

5 April 2015

Steven Haslam has spoken of the pride in the Owls camp following the Under-18s’ derby triumph over Sheffield United.

Wednesday ran out 3-0 winners at Shirecliffe on Saturday morning, with a brace from Matt Penney and a Glenn Law goal.

And Haslam was delighted with the way in which his young players approached the game and played it.

He told swfc.co.uk: “We spoke before the game how derbies can be very frantic and so toughly contested, even at this age group.

“They boys had to be switched on mentally as well as physically and they were both.

“They showed a determined will to win that you need in games like this.

“They should be proud of themselves and the staff are proud of them all.

“The use of the ball was excellent and we created a high tempo – we pressed, we competed and our attitude was absolutely spot-on.

“We scored some quality goals that came as a result of our players dictating the play and I couldn’t be more pleased.”
