Owls star attends anti-racism event

1 April 2015

More than 100 young people from two Sheffield schools visited Hillsborough to take part in a range of anti-racism educational activities delivered by Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC).

Pupils from Hillsborough School and Greenfield Primary School had the opportunity to put their questions on the subject of racism to Wednesday player Jeremy Helan.

French-born Helan received a warm welcome and spoke passionately and eloquently about racism and the role of education in helping to tackle it.

He explained to the young people that there is no such thing as different ‘races’ and that people, irrespective of their skin colour or nationality, are all part of the human race.

Jeremy said: “You all now have an important job to do. You need to go back to your schools and tell everyone what you have learned. You need to Show Racism the Red Card.”

The pupils watched a screening of the SRtRC anti-racism education film which features footballers and young people talking about their experiences of racism.

SRtRC would like to thank all partners at Sheffield Wednesday for their continued support for the campaign and would like to pay special tribute to Jeremy Helan; a role model in every sense.
