As the Owls prepare for Saturday’s clash with Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield, swfc.co.uk looks back on the 2004/05 meeting at Hillsborough between Wednesday and the Terriers.
The season, of course, ended in jubilation for the Owls at The Millennium Stadium with promotion to the Championship after victory over Hartlepool, ten years ago.
En route to that big day in the Welsh capital, Wednesday endured a difficult start to the campaign with a heavy defeat on the opening day at home to Colchester.
But the Owls bounced back immediately to post four successive wins – one of which was the early victory over Huddersfield, which is the focus of this Yesterdays feature.
In front over 26,000 supporters at Hillsborough, Steve MacLean bagged the only goal of the game midway through the first half.
Paul Heckingbottom picked out the striker in the middle, who calmly slotted home to seal the Owls’ third successive League One victory.
