Carlos Carvalhal reviews Mansfield win

11 August 2015

Carlos Carvalhal was happy with his team’s performance after a convincing Capital One Cup victory over Mansfield on Tuesday night.

The Owls came out 4-1 winners against the Stags to ease through to the second round.

Carvalhal reiterated his comments from the weekend following the league win over Bristol City, believing the cup should be taken game by game.

He said: “I am happy with the result, especially as we scored four goals.

“We want to do well in this competition, but tonight was just the first step of a marathon, just as it is in the league.”

The head coach was also happy with Joe Wildsmith’s first competitive game for the Owls, the academy product pulling off two important saves.

He added: “I slept very easy last night knowing that Joe would be starting in goal.

“I just told him to enjoy it and that I had full confidence in his ability to put in a good performance.

“It’s great to see a product of the club’s academy performing well in the first team, and I believe if the players from the Under-21s are good enough, then they will get a chance.”
