Carvalhal happy with squad balance

12 August 2015

Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal is happy with the balance of the squad.

The Owls have what Carvalhal describes as a group of experienced Championship players that form the soul of the side with the necessary credentials to succeed at this level.

On top of that, Wednesday have made quality additions from further afield over the summer and Carlos believes the players with experience on these shores have helped their new team mates adapt to English football.

He explained: “We have a lot of players with Championship experience and we are creating a very good atmosphere inside the team. They are the soul of the club. They are helping the other players to adapt.

“I’m very happy because I feel as though they are adapting very quickly.

“Take Alex Lopez. I know Alex very well, he played last season for Celta Vigo in Spain and he played completely different over there.

“He is adapting very quickly to this style of football but while he is adapting, he is still giving the best that he has and the quality that he has. He is one good example.”

Wednesday made nine changes for the Capital One Cup success over Mansfield on Tuesday and Carvalhal has reported the Owls are close to 100 per cent for the trip to Ipswich on Saturday.

He continued: “It’s normal to make changes, I have a squad full of players ready to play.

“Some players recover better than others, some players can play and recover between Saturday and Tuesday and not have any problems.

“We decided to change because the difference between the matches is very short.

“But we have all our players ready, we are not 100 per cent but almost there for the Ipswich game and we are happy about that.”
