Head coach relishing Robins clash

Carlos Carvalhal has said Wednesday will fight and do all they can to come away with three points on Saturday as it all begins in the Sky Bet Championship.

The highly anticipated clash with Bristol City is just days away and the head coach says his players are ready for the challenge after weeks of hard work over the summer.

The fixture is the Owls’ first at home on the opening day of a campaign since the 2011/12 season and Carvalhal is looking forward to sampling the big-game atmosphere at Hillsborough.

“I promise we will fight as hard as we can to win this first match," he said.

“The team is ready to start the competition, we are ready for the Championship and all our preparations have been for this game, which is the most important.

“Last week, we all felt the energy from the fans in the stadium and the players responded with positive football. I can’t wait to feel that again with many fans at Hillsborough supporting the team.”

Saturday marks the start of another hectic Championship season and newly promoted Bristol City stand in the way of Wednesday and three points.

Carvalhal continued: “It will be a difficult match, we know that. We know them very well and I’m sure they know us very well too.

“We have progressed well throughout pre-season and we have taken every game seriously.

“Every team will always have things to work on but I feel we are ready to start our Championship season.

“There will be ups, there will be downs – that is football – but we must go through the season together as one.”
