6 August 2015

Sheffield Wednesday set to welcome Hillsborough Pumas at Bristol City game.

Sheffield Wednesday are pleased to welcome local football team Hillsborough Pumas to Hillsborough for this weekend’s Grassroots Community Programme Scheme.

Hillsborough Pumas were founded in 2000, and 5 years on, the club are now an FA Charter Standard Community Club with more than 220 players in teams from Under 7s – Under 16s and a girls Under 12s side. Next season, the club will be re-launching their Under 18’s side.

The club are based at Hillsborough Arena and offer a Soccer School for boys and girls aged 4 - 6.

The local club also took part in last season’s Grassroots activities including walking around the pitch, shaking the giant Wednesday shirt before kick-off and walking out with the team.

Hillsborough Pumas player, Damon, said: “'It was a great day and it was awesome to see all of the people in the crowd when we walked around on the pitch.”

Tony Gee, Club Treasurer for the Hillsborough Pumas, said: “The day was extremely enjoyable and all the kids, and adults, loved it! We managed to receive £225 cash back from the scheme – it’s made all the trips to Hillsborough to buy tickets worthwhile!"

The Grassroots Scheme invites groups of youngsters of all backgrounds to engage with Sheffield Wednesday, who will offer significant benefits via the project in return, including discounted match tickets with cashback for junior clubs and money can’t buy experiences on the Hillsborough pitch.

For just £20, participants will take part in a range of exclusive matchday activities including a junior football coaching session, stadium tour, shaking of the giant shirt, guard of honour and half time parade. Included is your South Stand match ticket, copy of the programme and food for the juniors.

A ticket only package is available where adults can get tickets for just £20 and juniors for just £5 and then receive cashback for their club, school or organisation.
