Carlos looks forward to Yorkshire derby

The first Yorkshire derby of the season is set to take place on Saturday lunchtime at Elland Road as Wednesday face Leeds live on Sky Sports.

For Carlos Carvalhal, it will be his first taste of a Yorkshire derby since taking charge at Hillsborough and the head coach says he relishes these fixtures.

Over the years, Carvalhal has experienced the big derbies across Europe and says he has big expectations for this one tomorrow.

He told swfc.co.uk: “It will be an exciting match, Leeds have big expectations, we have big expectations and in these types of matches, there are no favourites.

Even if one team is better than the other on the pitch, the game and occasion acts an equaliser.

“It will be a question of attitude, fight and energy for the game.

“I like these environments, this is why you are in football to live this type of environment. When you play Benfica/Sporting, Besiktas/Galatasaray and Besiktas/Fenerbahce, they are big environments.

“I am in football to enjoy these types of moments.

“The players know exactly what they must do in this kind of environment. We have a lot of experienced players in our squad and we will be ready for this game.”

Fresh from the midweek draw with Reading in which Modou Sougou bagged a last minute leveller, Carvalhal added:

“We know what we did good and what was missing from the last game.

“We will correct those things but let me tell you something also. All coaches have that feeling after the match but when we analyse the games, you sometimes have completely different ideas.

“We analysed the game that we did on Wednesday. Lewis Price made just one save in the 90 minutes.

“The way that we managed the ball between defence to midfield and midfield to attack; this part we did good.

But of course with being aggressive and attacking the opposite goal, we missed some moments and aggressiveness.

“We didn’t create enough problems for the opposite goalkeeper and this we will correct.”
