Marnick Vermijl looks forward to Championship opener
Marnick Vermijl put the icing on the cake during the Owls’ emphatic 5-0 pre-season victory over St Mirren on Saturday.The full back advanced towards goal before unleashing a ferocious effort that flew into the top corner to cap a good afternoon for Wednesday.
The test against the Scottish Championship outfit marks the end of the Owls’ pre-season campaign and for Vermijl, all focus is now on the new season.
He told swfc.co.uk: “It was good to be on this pitch for the first time in pre-season and back in front of the fans.
“I think the team showed that we are ready for it next week.
“We’ve played a lot of games over the last few weeks, the results have not been the most important thing but back at Hillsborough, we wanted that result and now we feel like we are ready to start.”

Vermijl’s stunning strike caught the eye in the closing stages of the friendly encounter and of the goal, he added:
“It’s always nice to score but that’s not the most important thing, we wanted to win the game and we did that comfortably in the end.
“That’s one of my strong points going forward and doing something on the attack and it’s nice to score a goal.
“Today we wanted that result because we are one week before the championship starts.”
