Wiggins seeks success at Hillsborough

Wednesday’s new-look side will take to the field on Saturday against Bristol City and full back Rhoys Wiggins says the possibilities of what this group can achieve are endless.

The 27-year-old was part of the Charlton side that stormed to promotion as champions from League 1 in 2011/12 with a remarkable 101-point haul.

Ahead of that campaign – which also saw the Owls promoted as runners-up – the Addicks had their biggest turnover of players in the club’s history.

A total of seven new signings featured on the opening day of that term – a 3-0 win over Bournemouth – and Wiggins points to that success and said:

“It’s exciting times at Sheffield Wednesday.

“People might not be sure of what to expect when you make so many new signings and if the players will gel.

“But from my experience, it’s something that can bring a lot of success. We did it in League 1 at Charlton; we brought in a lot of players and a lot of new faces and went on to win the league.

“It’s something I’m used to and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Wiggins has featured at Hillsborough on numerous occasions throughout his career but is now set to sample the atmosphere in the blue and white of Wednesday.

He continued: “I’m looking forward to coming here and playing, I’m pleased to get it done and I want to get started right away.

“There is always a great atmosphere here, so I will look forward to them being on my side this time!

“I want to be involved in a successful team and with the owner and players that are coming in, I think we can really push on and achieve many things.”
