The power of Hillsborough

18 August 2015

In a stirring pre-match press conference at Middlewood Road on Tuesday, Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal said he wants the players to ‘feel the power of Hillsborough.’

Wednesday were roared on to victory in the first two competitive games of the season on home soil and the message from Carvalhal is more of the same.

Ahead of the clash with Reading, Carlos said: “What I hope from tomorrow is that all the players feel the power of Hillsborough. That is my big expectation.

“When I talk about the power of Hillsborough with our fans, I mean the positive energy that they give to the team.

“We love to play at Hillsborough, we have had some very good performances here and the environment has been fantastic to help us.

“I am sure we will have that same environment again. The key tomorrow night is the power of Hillsborough, this is the main word and I am sure our supporters can make the difference.”

Although the Owls went down 2-1 at Ipswich on Saturday, Wednesday threw everything they had at the Tractor Boys in the closing stages and were almost rewarded at the last.

That fighting spirit of the players, together with the fans, has given Carvalhal every confidence and excitement about returning to Hillsborough on Wednesday.

“We respect our opponent but with the help of our fans we will be fighting all the way to get three points,” he said.

“We finished the last match with our heads up with our fans with us and we want to take this into the next game.

“The fans helped our players give the maximum at the end of the last match to help us in the last seconds and we feel we are ready to attack the next game against Reading.”
