A big statement

24 December 2015

With three tough games in a week, Jack Hunt says the Owls have the opportunity to make one big statement during these festive fixtures.

Wednesday are one point outside the play-offs and Hunt has his sights set on breaking into the top six.

Boxing Day opponents Birmingham are level on points with the Owls and one position lower in the Sky Bet Championship on goal difference.

Middlesbrough, meanwhile, are top of the tree at Christmas and the defender believes that should Wednesday be at their best and take points from these games, it would be a huge sign of intent.

“It’s Birmingham and Middlesbrough next for us and add Fulham into the mix as well and you’ve got three tough games in a week,” Hunt said.

“The way I look at it is, if you’ve got three games in a week and you can pick up two wins and a draw, you will move up the table.

“That would be a big statement from us at this stage in the season.

“It’s always important to take points off teams that are around you and that starts with Birmingham on Saturday.”

As the halfway point in the season approaches, Hunt has taken plenty of encouragement from the progress Wednesday have made.

More to the point, the on-loan right back believes there is more to come from the Owls in the second part of the campaign.

He said: “The more games you play with people, you build relationships. The longer the season goes on, the better we will get, I am confident of that.”
