Fans vote Matias' strike as Owls Goal of the Year

31 December 2015

Marco Matias’ stunner against Leeds United at Elland Road has been voted as the Owls’ Goal of 2015.

Earlier in the week, we asked supporters to help us put forward our nomination for the Mitre Goal of the Year category at the Football League Awards 2016.

From the shortlist of ten, Matias’ wonder strike back in August has won by a landslide of 74% of the vote and will now represent Sheffield Wednesday in this category.

Each Football League club is asked to nominate one goal which can be from any match in a Football League competition played in the 2015 calendar year.

The 72 club-nominated goals will be whittled down to a shortlist of between 10-15 goals.

Fans will then vote for a final shortlist of five goals on Channel 5’s Football League Tonight show that will then go forward to the FLA evening on Sunday 17 April at Manchester Central.

Congratulations and good luck Marco!
