Owls miss out from derby duel

7 December 2015

The Owls’ Under-18s lost out by the odd goal in three in a hard-fought derby contest against local rivals Sheffield United on Saturday.

Windy conditions at Middlewood Road hampered the aesthetics of a league clash that Wednesday dominated for large periods.

George Hirst, returning from injury, was thwarted in a goalless first half that gave way to an entertaining second period.

The Owls were in control but failed to take their chances and were hit by two goals on the counter.

Wednesday battled on, though, and saw some reward when Connor O’Grady converted a Matt Penney set piece.

It might have been more when Hirst went down in the area but despite the hosts’ appeals, the referee said no and the Blades took the spoils.
