Put to the test

22 December 2015

Wednesday’s squad will be put to the test over the next few weeks.

The Owls have two games in two days to negotiate; the first on Boxing Day at home to Birmingham before travelling to top of the table Middlesbrough.

Throw into the mix a double-header against Fulham the following week in the Championship and FA Cup and it’s set to be a challenging period for the club.

With that in mind, Carlos Carvalhal wants as many players in the squad fit and ready for action to tackle this testing period head on.

He said: “We will see in the next days if any players will recover or not. We are in a period where we prefer to stay with all the players ready.

“It is a period where we are playing a lot of games.

“We have absolute confidence in all of them. I want all the squad ready but in reality we are missing five or six important players.”

The Owls are buoyant after Sunday’s impressive win over Wolves. The club’s biggest win in the Sky Bet Championship this season moved the Owls back to within a point of the top six.

Looking to build on that, Carlos added: “We will play on the 26 and the 28 December, both very tough games in two days.

“All the players are important, so let’s see in the next days if we can recover some of them.”
