The day of Sheffield Wednesday

20 December 2015

Carlos Carvalhal said the day belonged to Sheffield Wednesday after his side’s 4-1 win against Wolves at Hillsborough.

The Owls went down 1-0 down after an early penalty was converted by Benik Afobe but a brace from Fernando Forestieri and goals from Daniel Pudil and Gary Hooper secured the three points for Wednesday.

Carvalhal said: “Today is the day of Sheffield Wednesday.

“The players and the fans were brilliant and I don’t want to talk about individual performances because as a collective the team was fantastic.

“We were not so good in the first 15 minutes, but after this we kept control of the game and the balance of the team was very important.”

The Owls go into Christmas seventh in the Championship table and next face Birmingham on Boxing Day, with the head coach already looking forward to the game against the Blues.

He added: “We can enjoy today but my mind is on the next game.

“We can’t be too euphoric when we win and we can’t be too down when we lose, so we have to look forward.

“I just want to say thank you to the fans and wish them all a merry Christmas.”
