Two points lost

6 December 2015

Carlos Carvalhal felt his team lost two points after the Owls drew 0-0 with promotion contenders Derby County at Hillsborough.

Wednesday were solid at the back and played some attractive football against the Rams but were unable to break through their strong back four.

Carvalhal said: “We played with a lot of quality and the team was very well balanced.

“The only disappointment is the result as I think we were the better team, and I feel we have lost two points today.

“I’m not saying we are better than Derby, but today we had more quality on the pitch.

“We have only been together five months and are still in the process, but I am very happy with the squad and we are in a good way.”

The head coach made enforced changes to his team through injury, but Carvalhal was more than happy with the response.

He added: “We never make excuses about players who can’t play.

“Sam Hutchinson has played in defence before at Chelsea, and he was very good today in that position.

“Liam Palmer was not in the 18 for Stoke but was one of the best players on the pitch today.

“We always say we are a squad and we play the best side we have available.

The Owls have moved up to seventh place and face an away trip to Cardiff on Saturday.
