We deserved something from the game

28 December 2015

Carlos Carvalhal believes the Owls deserved something from what proved a tight Championship contest against Middlesbrough on Monday.

Having conceded the only goal as early as the first minute, Wednesday slowly but surely got a grip on the game, with their second half performance in particular impressing on Teesside.

And Carvalhal said: “We certainly deserved something because we fought and fought. The players were fantastic.

“Some of them play all the time, others came into the team today but they were all fantastic.

“Of course, it was difficult because we lost a goal so early and our plans for the game had to change.

“This is why we were not so good in the first half but we looked completely different in the second half.”

The Owls’ head coach bemoaned the quirk in the fixture schedule that saw his side play twice in three days while Middlesbrough were completely fresh with their game at Blackburn on Saturday postponed.

He added: “It is not fair on us and not fair on the competition.

“The competition is very serious but it cannot be right that we play twice in three days but Middlesbrough do not play for more than week.

“I say congratulations to them for the win but these conditions are not correct and it would be unfair if this was to happen again.

“This did not give Boro a small advantage, it was a massive advantage.

"But we played, we fought, we gave everything and in these conditions, my players were fantastic.”
