We put the meat on the fire

12 December 2015

Carlos Carvalhal likened the Owls’ comeback at Cardiff to ‘putting all the meat on the fire’ as they went all out for victory in the Welsh capital.

Second half goals from Fernando Forestieri and Barry Bannan cancelled out Peter Noone and Anthony Pilkington strikes before the break to haul Wednesday level.

Either side might have nicked a winner, prompting Carvalhal to say:

“As we say in Portugal, we put all the meat on the fire because we needed to eat!

“We scored two goals, we were eating well, and we threw everything on the fire to get the winning goal.

“We normally play more compact than that but this game was very open and Cardiff wanted a winning goal and so did we.

“Neither side got another goal and I think a draw was probably the correct result.

“Against Derby last week, I thought we lost two points but today we have won one point because we were 2-0 down at half time.”
