A day to remember

16 February 2015

Local football club Beighton Magpies enjoyed a special occasion at Hillsborough on Saturday.

The Magpies participated in grassroot activities for the Owls v Brighton clash and had a fun-packed day to remember!

Under-9s manager Chris Hartley said: “The stadium tour was fantastic and I cannot praise the staff enough, who made us feel very welcome.

“The community guys were top drawer, they took the boys to the training ground before the match started and Steve Taylor, the community officer, looked after us all so well.

“The icing on the cake was six of the boys walking out with the players….my son Fenton is still buzzing about that!

“Also, we did the flag waving, shaking the giant shirt in the centre circle, and all the children played some part in the on-field activities.

“The parents cannot praise the guys enough….a MASSIVE pat on the back for all concerned.”

The Sheffield Wednesday Grassroots Community Scheme was launched in early 2015 and aims to make the youngsters of today supporters of tomorrow, with exclusive incentives for junior sports teams, schoolchildren and youth groups in the region.
