In the absence of suspended skipper Glenn Loovens, Owls head coach Stuart Gray revealed the reasons why Tom Lees picked up the responsibility of wearing the armband.
The stopper has made 31 appearances this season and been a rock at the back for Wednesday.
Lees’ consistent displays at the heart of the Owls defence and attitude on and off the pitch left Gray in no doubt over his decision.
He told swfc.co.uk: “Tom leads by example on the pitch.
“It was quite a big change in the back four with Claude Dielna coming in for Glenn Loovens and Marnick Vermijl coming in for Liam Palmer.
“But Tom is a calming influence and a good organiser. He goes about his business and is a top professional so I thought he was the right man for the job.
“He is a diamond of a lad and he wants to do well, he trains as if it’s his last session every day so credit to him.
“Tom was very honoured that I asked him to be captain.”
