Defining point of the season

20 February 2015

  • Stuart Gray looks ahead to five-game mini season
  • Owls to play five fixtures in 14 days
  • Hectic period will be defining point, says head coach
  • Derby is first up for Wednesday this weekend

Stuart Gray has highlighted the next two weeks as a defining point in the season.

Starting from Saturday, Wednesday have a hectic schedule with five games in 14 days.

To begin the busy period the Owls travel to Derby this weekend before travelling south to Millwall in midweek.

“We’ve got five games in the next two weeks and I’d class it as almost a mini season where we’ve got to really go for it,” he said.

“We’ve got five games in the next two weeks and that’s where the squad will be stretched to the limit.

“It will be a defining moment on that fifth game because we will know whether we can keep up with the play-off pack or finish in mid table.”

As well as Derby and Millwall, a clash against league leaders Middlesbrough and further games with Blackburn and Blackpool await.

Gray’s message to the players is to give the games everything and he continued:

“I’ve said to the players, ‘let’s go for it.’ We’ve got five games in a short space and Derby is a good game for us on Saturday.

“Not many will give us a chance at Derby so we go as the underdog but we have to put in a better performance than the last time we were away.

“The atmosphere is good, the lads are buoyant and there is a lot of banter out on the pitch.

“But we are at the business end and have an important five-game period with 15 points to play for so let’s go for it.”
