EXCLUSIVE: Milan choked by Owls farewell

7 February 2015

Milan Mandaric has spoken exclusively to swfc.co.uk following an emotional afternoon at Hillsborough on Saturday.

The outgoing Owls chairman addressed Wednesdayites on the pitch ahead of the Championship clash with Cardiff, part of an emotional day that left Milan visibly moved as he said his S6 goodbyes.

He said: “I was so sad to say farewell but I know in my heart it is the right thing to do.

“Sadness and emotions are running high right now after I saw the overwhelming response by our supporters today.

“I always said the relationship between the supporters and myself was very healthy and that it allowed us to progress to where we are today.

“Prior to the game, in the last few days, I received so many beautiful letters and messages and now at the game it all just got a little bit too much for me.”

Milan recently agreed to sell his 100% shareholding of SWFC to Thai businessman Dejphon Chansiri and has credited Wednesdayites for their part in helping take the club to its next chapter.

He added: “The relationship during our journey together was a special one and the kind messages are the result of that relationship.

“All I asked for from my supporters was trust and I promised I would leave their club in a healthier way than when I found it. Without that trust I could not deliver what they deserve.

“From the bottom of the heart, I would like to thank everyone who has sent me such wonderful messages, letters and cards.

“I would also like to thank my supporters for the last four years. It has been incredible.

"I have had many experiences in my life but the Sheffield Wednesday experience is one I will remember and cherish forever.”
