Maguire back to face former club Derby

20 February 2015

  • Chris Maguire back for Owls after two-match ban
  • Owls face the Scot’s former club Derby on Saturday
  • Maguire was with the Rams in 2011/12

Having fully served his two-match ban, Chris Maguire can come back into the thoughts of Stuart Gray this weekend.

The opponents – Derby – are a side Maguire knows well having been on the books with the Rams in 2011/12.

No doubt the Scot will be out to make an impression on his return to the side and return to the iPro and Gray said:

“It’s been frustrating for Chris having to sit out the last two games but we’ve got him back now and he’s got to work his way back into the team.

“Any player who goes back to their old club will want to play well and make a good impression.

“He’s going back to a club he knows well. He will want to show Derby what they are missing and it’s an opportunity for him to show what he can do if selected.

“But the last thing I want Chris to do is go to Derby and try too hard.

“Sometimes players can go back to their former clubs and be too hyperactive instead of being relaxed and composed.”

With Maguire back in the frame, the head coach is confident the forward can add to his goal tally during the Owls’ hectic period over the next two weeks.

“Chris scored ten goals towards the end of last season; he won’t shirk responsibility when he gets an opportunity to shoot, he will take it.

“Chris will probably be disappointed he’s not got more goals but we do know, as he showed last season, that he can go on a little run whether he gets them from the penalty spot or open play.”
