McGugan back with Wednesday

2 February 2015

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Watford midfielder Lewis McGugan on loan until the end of the season.

The 26-year-old re-joins the Owls after a successful loan stint with the club earlier in the season.

McGugan made seven appearances for Wednesday towards the end of the 2014 calendar year – a spell that saw the Owls win four and draw one.

The midfield man is a product of the Nottingham Forest academy and made over 200 appearances for the Reds in his seven years at The City Ground.

During his time at Forest, the schemer scored 44 goals from the engine room, which gave him an impressive ratio of one goal every four games.

His form in 2007/08 was invaluable as the Reds won promotion to the second tier, with McGugan chipping in with seven goals.

McGugan is firmly established at this level and finished as Forest’s top scorer in the Championship in 2010/11 with 13 goals.

In July 2013, he penned a three-year deal with Watford and continued his excellent strike rate at Vicarage Road, scoring 11 goals in 37 games throughout last season.

McGugan’s arrival at Hillsborough will serve as another deadline day boost for the Owls and the exciting midfielder is set to go straight into the squad for Saturday’s home clash with Cardiff.
