Owls welcome Burgess family to Hillsborough

16 February 2015

Ahead of the Owls’ draw with Brighton on Saturday at Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday welcomed the family of former star Harry Burgess.

Harry was part of the last Owls team to lift the league title in 1930. The inside-left was a regular fixture at Hillsborough for five years and a mainstay in the successful team of that time.

Signed in 1929, Harry went on to make 233 appearances for the club, scoring 77 goals along the way.

He was also capped by England four times during his spell with the Owls and found the net in as many times for the Three Lions before going on to play for Chelsea in 1935.

Harry died in October 1957 at the age of just 53.
