Sky Sports presenter becomes face of Community Programme

18 February 2015

Sky Sports presenter and lifelong Wednesday fan David Garrido has been announced as a patron of the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme.

The Community Programme, the club’s charitable arm, works in the four key areas of education, social inclusion, health and well-being, operating in the South Yorkshire area.

The programme is one of the most successful in its field in the country and Garrido will help ensure the positivity emanating from S6 continues in the media arena.

The national sports journalist, who has supported the Owls since the early 1990s, said: "I'm thrilled to be joining the club in this capacity - the Community Programme does some fantastic work in and around the city, and it's great to be associated with a scheme which really achieves results and makes such a big difference to people's lives.

"Even though I'm based in London, I'm looking forward to being able to come back to Sheffield more often and see the programme in full effect."

One of Garrido’s first projects will be hosting the ‘Class of 05’ event at Hillsborough on 8 March, in which the promotion-winning Wednesday team of 2005 will be reunited.

Spencer Taylor, CSR Manager for the Community Programme, said: “It’s a great bonus for us to have David on board and we’re really pleased to have secured someone of his ability and profile.

“First and foremost, he has a natural enthusiasm for the club, which carries over into the work we do in the community, so it couldn’t be a better fit. We’re really looking forward to working with David and involving him in our activities.”
