Academy gains for young American

28 January 2015

The Owls’ academy have provided a vital fitness base for young American Darion Copeland while the highly rated youngster prepares for the new USA campaign.

Copeland has trained with the Under-18s, Under-21s and select first team players at Middlewood Road having been recommended by the club’s American partners Global Image Sports (GIS).

Foundation Phase Lead Coach Matt Burton said: “Darion conducted himself very well over the last two weeks, he has shown an excellent attitude to all training sessions and has looked comfortable at this level.

“I’m sure the experience at training at the club has been invaluable to him. Myself and everyone at Sheffield Wednesday would like to wish Darion well with his career path.”

GIS Chief Operating Officer Mike Kelleher added: “"Global Image Sports was delighted to assist Darion via our friends and partners at Sheffield Wednesday on his journey to hopefully becoming a professional footballer.

“We have been approached by a number of US Colleges concerning the need for Elite training and preparation for players finishing their college careers prior to entering the professional game.

“We hope to replicate the work Darion did at Sheffield Wednesday next year with more players at a site to be announced."
