With the Owls heading to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Stuart Gray says the departure of winger Michail Antonio to The City Ground has ultimately opened the door for Jeremy Helan.
The Frenchman has nailed down a starting shirt of late, with Forest in his sights this weekend.
And Gray feels Helan is heading in the right direction.
The head coach said: “I felt the timing was right when Michail went to Forest and it also gave Jeremy the opportunity.
“He has taken his chance recently and done well. He has the one thing that defenders do not like and that is pace.
“He has the ability to run with the ball from one end of the pitch to the other and not a lot of players can do that.
“He can cross the ball, he can slip someone in, and that is the area we are working on every day in training."
