Sheffield Wednesday Under-21s were defeated 2-1 by Nottingham Forest on Monday afternoon.
Caolan Lavery gave the Owls a first half lead but the hosts hit back late in the game through Nikolay Todorov and a Henri Lansbury penalty.
Owls coach Lee Bullen was disappointed to see the points slip away after a solid performance from his side in difficult conditions.
He told swfc.co.uk: “We were 1-0 up at half time but really should have been out of sight.
“We created four or five really good chances and dominated a lot of the game, so the boys are frustrated.
“We lost our shape a little after the break but never really looked in danger.
“But they drew level with a goal that looked offside at the time, though from the replay it’s probably the right decision.
“And then we conceded a late penalty which was disappointing but there were a lot of positives for us today, not least of all from Caolan who led by example.
“He chased and harried and got his reward with a goal.
“It’s a cruel blow for the lads after a good performance but like we saw against Leeds earlier in the season, if you don’t take your chances, you’ll get punished.”
