Make up the ground

  • Liam Palmer aiming to narrow the gap to top six
  • Wednesday seven points shy after Bolton clash
  • Owls next in action against Birmingham on 27 January

Liam Palmer is keen not to dwell on Saturday’s setback against Bolton and is instead focusing on making up the ground lost on the top six.

With five wins from seven prior to the defeat, spirits were high in S6 and Palmer wants to recapture that feeling and put to bed the home reverse against the Whites.

Having seen the four-point gap to the play-off spots stretch to seven, Palmer said: “You always want to be within touching distance.

“We have to look to the next game. The gap has gone to seven and we have to close it.

“It’s better to be looking up this way than looking over your shoulder.

“We have another big home game a week on Tuesday and we’ll go again.”

The Owls now have an extended wait before the next Championship battle which is at home to Birmingham on Tuesday 27 January.

Liam continued: “It’s an unusual period because the games usually come thick and fast.

“That can be a good thing, particularly when you’ve had a bad result and you want to put it right.

“But this period will give us time to prepare.

“Everyone knows how tight this league is, we have to keep plugging away and picking up points.”
