Ready for action

8 January 2015

New recruit Lewis Baker says he is ready to be thrown straight into the cut and thrust of Championship action on Saturday.

The loanee from Chelsea is eligible for the visit to Nottingham Forest and would take a starting shirt squarely into his stride.

He said: “I would have no qualms because I want to play first team football. I am ready to play, that is why I have come out on loan.

“I wasn’t allowed to go on loan last season but this time I can and I feel I am ready for this.

“I scored 18 goals last season and now I think I am ready for the next step up of my career.

“I have watched a lot of Championship football and I am buzzing to get started for Sheffield Wednesday and help the club climb the table.”

Baker is already feeling at home in Sheffield, aided by familiar faces in the shape of Cameron Dawson and Sam Hutchinson – and also his father.

He added: “I know Cammy when we were both away with the England youth team and Hutch from Chelsea.

“My dad is also from Sheffield so he will be able to help me find my feet as well.

“To be fair, it’s a great group here, everyone has made me feel welcome and now I want to play my football for the team.”
