Returning players chomping at the bit

16 January 2015

  • Owls boosted by injury update
  • Buxton, Mattock, Hutchinson and Coke back for Wednesday
  • Stuart Gray pleased with added competition

Wednesday have been boosted by the return to fitness of Lewis Buxton, Sam Hutchinson, Joe Mattock and Giles Coke.

The quartet are back on the training pitch, while Hutchinson and Mattock were also included on the bench at The City Ground last weekend.

Stuart Gray says the return of key first team players will put pressure on those with the shirt and provide vital competition.

He said: “The pleasing thing for me is that finally my treatment room is empty.

“I’ve got Lewis Buxton back, I’ve got Sam Hutchinson, Joe Mattock and Giles Coke all chomping at the bit to try and get into the team and that’s what you need.

“You need that competition. And the most important thing is strengthening and keeping players on their toes.

“The timing of these players coming out of the treatment room will trigger one or two to maybe think, ‘I’ve got to perform well because if not, I’ve got players ready to take my shirt.’

“We’ve got momentum and we need to build on it.

“Having Lewis back will put pressure on Liam, having Coke and Hutchinson back will put pressure on Lee and Semedo. I’ve brought the young boy Baker in who will also add to that pressure.”
