S6 soccer skills!

21 January 2015

The Owls’ academy have hosted a successful Saturday morning session this year, which has been extremely well received by the club’s aspiring young footballers!

The programme is set to music and takes the format of a number of stations that rotate on a regular basis.

Players work in short bursts to music to perform ball mastery, receiving, passing, change of direction, 1v1 moves, ball striking, finishing and keep-ups.

Facilitated by the academy coaches in a fun but professional environment, the courses have been welcomed by the players, who have taken on board the key technical topics delivered.

The music, meanwhile, creates a great vibe inside the dome, encouraging a steady tempo at which the boys learn and play.

Foundation Phase Lead Coach Matt Burton said:  “I feel the benefits of the programme are starting to show in the way the players perform on a Sunday morning against other academies.

“Players are managing the ball well and trying the new skills they learn on a Saturday.

“The aim at the Foundation Phase is to create players who can make goals via individual 1v1 skill or combining with team mates through passing and movement.

“The programme also encourages the boys to play with both feet and achieve multi-directional excellence.”
