A month-long loan spell with Carlisle United is the next stage in Owls defender Matt Young’s career, says head coach Stuart Gray.
The stopper signed a one-year deal with Wednesday in summer 2014 and has progressed well in S6 with the Owls Development Squad.
And Young – who was named on Wednesday’s bench for the FA Cup-tie with Manchester City – featured for the Cumbrians in their League Two clash with Cambridge United on Saturday.
“This is the next stage of Matt’s career,” Gray said.
“He has played a lot at Under-21 level but now he needs to get some league football.
“Nothing beats Saturday afternoon football playing in front of a crowd. When you make mistakes, it means something rather than a training ground game or an Under-21 match.
“I know Matt. He’s a confident boy who has got great ability and it will be a good experience for him.”
