Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal has expressed his delight after capturing the signature of Marco Matias.
The Portuguese attacking midfielder signed a four-year deal with the Owls this week and Carvalhal is a big admirer of the 26-year-old.
Matias struck 20 goals in 33 games for Primeira Liga side Nacional last season and the head coach is happy to have the winger in the Owls ranks.
He said: “He wants to play in England, I pushed him a lot to come here and I’m very happy he chose Sheffield Wednesday.
“He had a lot of interest from other clubs and I’m very happy he is here.
“In Portugal the teams have very good defensive organisation and the top scorers in Portugal average around 20-22 goals.
“There are big strikers that play in Portugal; the likes of Jackson Martínez, Jonas and Lima. it’s difficult to get over 20 goals.
“Marco is a winger, he scored 17 goals and three in the cups and that was fantastic. If he can bring that here that will help us.”
Carvalhal added: “He is a special player and I think our fans will enjoy the football of Marco.”
