Carvalhal outlines aims of Alfreton friendly

10 July 2015

Wednesday face their first test of pre-season against Alfreton on Saturday and head coach Carlos Carvalhal says the game will serve as an important exercise.

The new league campaign is just five weeks away and the Portuguese has several aims for this weekend’s warm-up fixture.

He said: “This is a friendly game and it is all about the preparation.

“We will give the opportunity to all our boys in the squad for this game but we are caring more about the game-time and for the players to work hard.

“We want to look at the players in the kind of condition when they are tired and see what they can do.

“In these games, we can check if our offensive organisation is correct and what we want from these types of situations in the game.

“It will allow us to see how we are doing in the transition when we lose the ball and if the players are receiving the message.”

For Carvalhal, the most important game is on Saturday 8 August against Bristol City, and the key aim is to have everything in place for that Hillsborough clash.

He added: “It’s better to play games of course, the players like to play in matches but as I’ve said from the beginning, the most important match is against Bristol City.

“This is the most important and after the match on Saturday, we will correct everything that is wrong and put it right.”
