Counting down the days

Sergiu Bus is counting down the days to the new campaign but says there is plenty of hard work to get through before the big kick-off on 8 August.

The Owls squad faced their first of six summer friendlies on Saturday against National League North side Alfreton, drawing 1-1 at The Impact Arena.

Bus struck for the Owls four minutes after his introduction from the bench at the start of the second period, tapping home from Marco Matias’ square ball and that goal has whet the Romanian striker’s appetite for more.

He told the Owls’ official website: “It was our first game of pre-season and I think it was a good physical game and that’s what we need. It’s all good preparation.

“Of course I’m pleased to score a goal and I’m thankful to my team.

“I hope I will have one chance like Marco Matias had and I will pass for him to score next time to return the favour.

“I am looking forward to the season, I want to stay fit and play many games because I want to do my job for the team; to train and play well for this club.”

As the 22-year-old embarks on his first full season at Hillsborough, Bus’ aims and ambitions are clear with the main target to help Wednesday become a force in the Championship.

He continued: “The important thing is that Sheffield Wednesday must get good results, aim high and that’s what we are doing.

“I can’t wait anymore for the season to start. Pre-season is the hard part but we need to do it.”
