Feeling the heat

Portugal trip key for fitness

Owls utility man Jeremy Helan has spoken of the benefits of training in high temperatures and the difference it makes to the players.

The Wednesday squad arrived at their Portuguese training base on Wednesday and got straight to business on the training pitch.

Helan says working in the heat is hard work but the benefits will be clear upon the return to Sheffield.

He told swfc.co.uk: “You feel thirsty from the first minute of training and that’s the big difference.

“You have to manage the intensity levels because it is a big change in this heat but we know it will get us fitter.

“Training in these conditions now will get the best out of us when we get back to the UK.”

The Owls will face a different kind of challenge on Friday evening, taking on Portuguese top tier side SC Braga (7.15pm).

Helan expects the Primeira Liga side to show their quality but is ready for the workout.

“We are playing Braga tomorrow, they are a big team and finished fourth so to develop as a team and get the best out of us, we have to play teams like that to really see how we look.

“We have already played three games, this will be our fourth, and like us they are getting ready for their new season so it should be a good test.”

As we were speaking to Jeremy, team mate Jose Semedo stopped by to welcome the Frenchman to Portugal!
