Striker pleased with pre-season goal

Wednesday striker Caolan Lavery struck his first goal of pre-season on Friday evening against Portuguese big-hitters Braga.

The striker profited from Stevie May’s ball over the top and rounded the goalkeeper before applying a calm finish into the bottom corner.

Lavery was pleased to get off the mark and told swfc.co.uk: “It’s always nice to get the goal. It was a great ball from Stevie and I was glad to put it in the back of the net.

“Every goal gives you confidence and hopefully I will get a few more in the coming games and take it into the season.

“I got a good 80 minutes under my belt, it was difficult in very hot conditions and not just in the game, you feel it during the warm-ups so it’s tough all round.

“But that’s all part of pre-season and building up your fitness.”

On the 2-1 defeat to Braga, he added: “It was a game of two halves, the first they shaded but I would say we were in control for most of the second half.

“It was disappointing the way we conceded and against the run of play but the point of pre-season is to iron out any mistakes and overall we can be pleased with how we played against a very talented side.”
