Owls midfield ace glad to be back

Lewis McGugan says his 45 minutes under the belt during the friendly with York on Saturday will help to blow off the cobwebs.

The midfielder was keen to get back out on the pitch as soon as possible after signing his three-year deal with Wednesday earlier in the week.

And the 26-year-old wasted no time to that end, scoring the Owls’ equaliser at Bootham Crescent after his introduction from the bench for the second half.

He said after the game: “It felt good. It was good to get back out there and get the rust off.

“Today was about getting the cobwebs off me and starting again. Hopefully that 45 minutes under my belt will put me in good shape to kick on.”

Naturally the midfield ace was delighted to get on the scoresheet in his first pre-season friendly this summer and he added:

“I probably had too much time but luckily enough it came back to me and I could put the ball in the net. It’s great to score on your first game back.

“Scoring goals is a big part of my game and if I can keep that up this season to help the team that will be brilliant.

“First and foremost it’s about the team, the shape and the way the head coach wants us to play. If I can be involved in that and contribute with goals in that system, then I’m doing my job.”
