The Sheffield Wednesday Education Programme has launched a new elite football development programme with a leading South Yorkshire college which will give young people the chance to progress to a professional playing contract.
Young people aged 16 to 18 are being encouraged to apply to the elite football development programme – the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) which starts in September 2015.
Sky Sports TV presenter David Garrido and ambassador for the Education and Community Programme encourages anyone who wants to develop their football career, progress to professional play or coaching to apply to the course.
The course offers young, talented football players the opportunity to study whilst actively participating in an elite football development programme.
In partnership with a leading South Yorkshire college and the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme, works with elite coaches from the club and Sheffield FC.
The students are supported to improve their performance levels and have the opportunity to potentially gain a professional playing contract.
The course is made up of 12 study units which includes learning about anatomy and physiology in sport, fitness testing, training and programming, practical sport, safe and effective sport coaching, sport leadership, sports injuries, sports nutrition, sport psychology and tactical and technical sport skills.
You will also study for english and maths qualifications if you do not already hold a minimum GCSE grade C. Students can also study additional short courses to enhance employability such as the FA Level 1 coaching award and the FA youth module.
