'The right man'

9 July 2015

Owls chairman Dejphon Chansiri has hailed Carlos Carvalhal as the right man for the task of steering Wednesday into the club’s new era.

The Portuguese was formally introduced to the media on Thursday and afternoon and Mr Chansiri was delighted to welcome his new head coach to S6.

He said: “I would like to welcome Carlos to Sheffield Wednesday – I believe he is the right man for this job.

“The reason I chose Carlos was because we want to play with a new, exciting, attacking philosophy.

“Carlos will bring new ideas and a new style of play and he is a coach who will blend perfectly with my philosophy of aggressive and entertaining football.”

The Owls’ chief also revealed he spoke with a selection of candidates having made the decision to part company with Stuart Gray.

He explained: “Letting Stuart go was a very tough decision because he is a good coach and a good man.

“But I felt we needed to make the change. Once I made that decision, it was important to assess other candidates who were suitable for the role of head coach of Sheffield Wednesday.

“I spoke to a lot of people, some from England and some from abroad. The process was thorough and diligent as it was vital to arrive at the right candidate for the job and that man is Carlos.”
