BTEC scholar scores with top accolade

26 June 2015

A Sheffield Wednesday education scholar has scooped a top accolade for scoring the most goals in the National Futsal League North Region for the 2014/15 season.

Josh, a BTEC Level 3 student on the club’s Education Programme, won the ‘Golden Boot’ prize which awarded him for being the top goalscorer in the futsal league.

The 17-year-old has just finished his first year on the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and will now progress into his second year.

The course allows students to study towards the qualification whilst regularly playing and coaching Futsal to develop technical, tactical and physical ability. The students also play in a professional club in the Futsal League.

The education programme is delivered at the ground in association with Sheffield Wednesday and their Community Programme and has now been in place for two years.

In association with the Football League Trust, the programme allows young people aged 16-18 to study at the football club’s education facilities and various sports venues across Sheffield.

Rick Hunt, Curriculum Manager for the Education Programme, said: “It’s great for our students to be recognised outside the club and we’re really pleased for Josh to be the top goalscorer in the league!

“Josh has shown really good progression and we look forward to seeing him develop as we move in to the second half of the programme. Well done, Josh!”

The Education Programme is now recruiting for their next intake for the BTEC Level 1, 2 and 3 courses however limited places are available.
