Yesterdays: Owls defeat Stags in cup clash

16 June 2015

The draw for the Capital One Cup first round was made on Tuesday morning as the Owls were paired against Mansfield Town.

The two sides will meet at Hillsborough in the early throes of the 2015/16 campaign for the first time in a competitive fixture since the 1990/91 season.

The Owls drew the Stags in the third round of the FA Cup at Field Mill and were a goal to the good after just seven minutes.

Peter Shirtliff nodded Wednesday in front from Danny Wilson’s corner as the Owls asserted their dominance over the Third Division strugglers.

Wednesday made it 2-0 after the break when player-manager George Foster handled in the area and John Sheridan scored from the resulting penalty.

Owls: Turner, Harkes, King, Palmer, Shirtliff, Pearson, Wilson, Sheridan, Hirst, Williams, McCall

Attendance: 9,076
