Battling for position

13 March 2015

Marnick Vermijl has said he will be doing all he can to earn his place in the Owls’ starting line-up.

The ex-Manchester United defender returned to the side in last Saturday’s win over Blackpool, replacing the injured Sam Hutchinson on 18 minutes.

Right back Vermijl demonstrated his versatility at Bloomfield Road, playing in midfield and is now hoping to kick on for the remaining ten games.

He told swfc.co.uk: “It’s going well, training is good and I was back in the team again last week at Blackpool.

“This is another step in my career so it was never going to be easy.

“I knew it was going to be difficult adapting to a new team, new players, getting to know each other and getting to know the club but we’re getting there now.

“I was thrown into the team and I thought I started well, the second game wasn’t my best but you learn from that.”

Vermijl’s arrival at Hillsborough has seen Liam Palmer rise to the challenge, thus showing the benefit of added competition and Marnick added:

“Liam is doing really well so it’s up to me to show what I can do in training and push him all the way.

“The team has done really well lately, we are getting the results in the last few weeks and we are looking upwards.”
