A Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme staff member has scooped a top community accolade to honour his dedication to sport in the local area.
Matt Young who works as an assistant community officer for the Community Programme was presented with the Sports Personality of the Year award for his hard work and contribution to sport in Shiregreen.
The Shiregreen Community Awards, organised by the Community Programme’s partner Sanctuary Housing, celebrates people who have made a difference in the local area.
Former professional international football referee Howard Webb was on hand at the ceremony and presented Matt with his award.
Matt started work for the club’s Community Programme as an apprentice eight years ago and has progressed through the ranks to get to his current position that see’s him deliver and facilitate physical education and multi-sport sessions in the community.
Steve Taylor, Community Officer for the Community Programme, said: “Over the last 12 months Matt has made a big impact at the HBH Academy Primary School in Shiregreen.
“He delivers P.E and after school multi-sport sessions five days a week and has helped contribute towards the increased standard of school sport. Well done Matt!”
