Loan watch: Joe Wildsmith makes Football League bow

28 March 2015

Owls goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith chalked up his maiden Football League appearance on Saturday for loan club Barnsley.

The SWFC academy product joined the Reds on a youth loan deal ahead of their clash with League 1 leaders Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

And Wildsmith impressed on his league debut during the 2-2 draw that leaves Barnsley just outside the play-offs on goal difference and well poised to finish in the top six.

Reds boss Lee Johnson said: “Joe has done well for his league debut. There was a calm focus about him. He made a couple of good saves and his kicking was good.

"He coped well. I reminded him it was about concentration and if something goes wrong, to keep going.”

Meanwhile, Paul Corry registered his first goal for Carlisle United in Saturday’s defeat to Oxford.

The midfielder’s long range free kick skipped up off the turf and went in off the crossbar to give the Cumbrians the lead.

United went on to lose 2-1 and are just three points above the drop zone.
